Elementary Algebra is designed to provide students with the mathematical foundation and personal confidence to enable them to use mathematics in their future life. This course is designed to develop the skills and understanding contained in the first year of secondary school algebra. During this grading period we will take up measurements and the real number system.
Your child will achieve the following objectives:

- apply real numbers in a variety of ways to other disciplines.
- identify/give examples of rational and irrational numbers
- illustrate rational and irrational numbers in practical situations
- perform the sequence of operations with real numbers.
solve problems in other disciplines such as science, art, agriculture, etc.
use different tools/devices and units of measures.
- cite situations where measuring tools are appropriately used.
- convert units of measure.
- round off numbers.
- cite real life situations where rounding off numbers is applied.
- approximate measurement by rounding off to its nearest desired value.
formulate and solve real life problems applying conversion of units.

Your child will be performing activities that will provide opportunity to demonstrate his/her understanding of the topics by solving a situation problem, develop his skill, ability to compare, and ability to communicate.

Finally your child will also be held accountable for the following two areas that are very important to his learning:

1. Putting efforts into work, even when it is difficult
2. Participating in a group work, discussion or any tasks to achieve goal.
